I am starting this post by stating the obvious. The way streaming services currently operate is bad and artists are barely able to make a living from people listening to their music.
I like to buy music. I like to own it and I like being able to support artists that I enjoy. I use streaming services to sample music and when I don’t have access to my own music. I am saying this both to try and salve my conscience and to share the stories of artists struggling against large online companies (see the embedded tweet from Nils Lofgren on this subject).
Being a consistent and conscientious individual, I am going to share a brilliant playlist called ‘Calm Before the Storm’ that I came across on Spotify. It is filled with brilliant ambient pieces with some wonderful guitar and synth tones.
I will definitely be revisiting some of the artists in this playlist and picking up their recordings when I can. Fantastic melodies in wonderful soundscapes.
